Label Secrets Pro is a completely original and exclusive program, and nobody has it but you (and your fellow SECRETS buyers).
Your cheerful authors dreamed up the idea for Label Secrets when writing Chapter 2 of Macworld Mac & Power Mac SECRETS, which deals with the utter pointlessness of the Label menu in System 7. We thought: if only it could be made to do something useful!
Now it does. Each time you turn on your Mac, the Label menu at your Finder desktop displays a different message containing one of the Macintosh Secrets from this book. It shows an actual Macintosh Secret every day for a year, right on your Mac screen!
Label Secrets Pro adds two powerful features. First, you can now open the control panel and click forward or backward through the secrets (use the Prev and Next buttons). Now you don't have to keep restarting the Mac to read the next secret — and it's easy to review a secret you read the other day.
Second, there's a Label Secrets Pro secret. If you're clever, you'll figure out the hidden method that lets you add your own secrets (or edit ours), right in the control panel!
(By the way, version 2 doesn't have ALL new secrets, but we've updated all of them and added quite a few new ones.)
What you need
System 7.0 or later.
Installation summary
Drag the Label Secrets Pro icon onto your System Folder icon; click OK. Restart the Mac.
How it works
Each time you turn on your Mac, pull down your Labels menu. You’ll see another trick or tip!
If you want to replay a secret you saw the other day, or if you’re too impatient to wait till tomorrow for the next one, you can open the Label Secrets Pro control panel. Use the Next and Prev buttons to read the previous and upcoming secrets (right there in the control panel, not in the Labels menu).
Normally, Label Secrets Pro shows you a secret a day for nearly a year — in the order we’ve selected. If you turn on Randomize Secrets, though, the computer chooses what Secret comes up each time!
The Show Icon option simply determines whether or not you’ll see the Label Secrets Pro control panel icon loading across your screen during startup.
You can even edit, add, or delete the secrets — if you can find the secret buttons that let you do so!
How to get rid of it
Open the Label Secrets Pro control panel. Click the Enable Label Secrets checkbox to turn it off. Now your original Labels (whatever was there — Essential, Hot, In Progress, whatever — before you installed Label Secrets Pro) return.
Throw Label Secrets Pro control panel away, if you want.
Notes and credits
David Pogue dreamed up the idea and wrote the secrets; Apple programmer/boy genius Jeffrey Robbin (author of Casady & Greene's Conflict Catcher) did the programming.
Label Secrets is available exclusively with this book. You may not distribute this program, post it on bulletin boards, or give it away.
